The 7 Secrets to Kundalini Yoga & Meditation Revealed by Valinda Cochella

After practicing Yoga since 1994 and teaching since 2000, I am still passionate about sharing Yogic Teachings….I keep thinking it might stop working…..but it just doesn’t.

I want to share with you 7 secrets of WHY Kundalini Yoga & Meditation Works.

Over the past 18 years I keep putting these teachings to the test, and they have NOT disappointed.

Women who follow me and discover these teaching CANNOT believe the results they get in just 1-3 minutes.

Yeah, you heard me right 1-3 MINUTES a day can change your life! Women have reported after their VERY 1st time practicing these teachings feeling: "Disciplined", "Enlightened", "Transformed", "Connected", "Awakened", "Concentrated", "Changed", "Accountable", "Transformed", "Alive", "Calm", "Peaceful", "In control of my feelings" ..........and MORE.

In this article I want to tell you WHY Kundalini Yoga & Meditation WORKS and affirm for you that you CAN do it!

1st Secret: Angle of the Body

We put our bodies in VERY specific angles throughout the practice. The “kriyas” (There are 1,000’s of Kriyas) or set of exercises that Kundalini Yoga Master Yogi Bhajan put together create a very specific angle of the body (asana/posture) to put pressure on a specific gland or organ, which in turn brings oxygen into the bloodstream, makes that gland secrete, massages the organ to bring a fresh blood supply in, and creates a cascade of things happening in the body… actually affects the entire nervous system. Each kriya is put together by Yogi Bhajan to create a desired result. It’s very “prescriptive”…..This is why I LOVE it! And why it WORKS. Feeling down? Do the kriya for depression for 40 days and report back to me……:)

2nd Secret: The Time We are in Posture

We are in each posture for a prescribed amount of time to get the desired results. The only thing we change as teachers of this technology is the time we do the posture. We usually do a prescribed posture for 1-3 minutes depending on what you can handle…’s usually challenging. You will feel it, even after 1 minute. I teach these as “Yoga Hacks” weekly on my South Bay Yoginis Facebook page, check it out in “videos”.  We do each posture shorter, sometimes longer, depending on the kriya / level of the student’s experience. You get to decide!

3rd Secret: We do a specific Pranayama for each Kriya/Posture (breathing technique)

Each kriya/posture/meditation has a specific breathing technique to affect the lungs, oxygen level in bloodstream, and nervous system. If no pranayama (breathing technique) is given, just do long deep breathing.

4th Secret: We do specific Mudras

A mudra is actually a “seal of energy” it’s like a ‘circuitry hook-up’ We are running our energy in a specific pattern (think sacred geometry of the body). We use mostly the hands to create mudras, but the body can also be in a mudra to create a specific path of energy moving. The tongue can also be in a mudra to affect the 84 meridians at the roof of the mouth, to calm the mind.

5th Secret: Mantras Sacred Sounds

We always use mantras in Kundalini Yoga Man= Mind Tra=heat of life (mind device) even if you are silently saying Sat Nam, “inhale sat, exhale nam” (Sat from the root of the word Satya, Nam from the root of the word Namaste’.....(truth is your name) in your mind. This is a “bij” mantra that plants a seed. All of our thoughts plant seeds. We “tune-in” before every class “Ong Namo, Guru Dev Namo” I bow to that creative consciousness that lies within myself...not outside of me. Mantras are a mind-device. It helps you from ruminating from negative thinking processes which ultimately affect your mood/feelings and actions….eventually these mantras become your thoughts.

6th Secret: Mantras Sacred Sounds chanted out loud

The mantras chanted out loud begin to affect the pituitary gland, hypothalamus gland and pineal glands. These are vibrations in your 7th chakra, the seat of the soul (master gland in charge of the hormones). We have 84 meridian points at the roof of the mouth and when we chant out loud we flick the tongue at the roof of the mouth and stimulate the endocrine system which affects our overall health, especially the nervous system.

7th Secret: Visualization/Gaze of the eyes (drishti)

Most of the time our eyes are closed. This is a very internal practice. You aren’t checking out your neighbors lululemon pants! We gaze up at the 3rd eye point, at the tip of the nose, at the chin, or crown of the head. Each eye position affects the optical nerve and has specific effects.

We also use powerful visualizations as we practice these kriyas. Science is just now proving the power of visualization. Studies are showing that visualization has a powerful effect on our psyche, because the mind doesn’t know the difference! It improves muscle function, and can move energy. Just like guided meditation, the more you practice the better you get!
